Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy and Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah have been served notices by the Election Commission for alleged violation of model code of conduct ahead of the May 29 bypolls in the state.

Taking note of a complaint by the Opposition TDP, the poll panel asked Reddy and Lakshmaiah to submit their replies by May 24. The allegation against the ministers was that they had participated in an election meeting held on the premises of a government school at Junevada village in Warangal district where by-elections are to be held. As per the code of conduct, conducting campaign rallies on government premises is not allowed. “I have never violated election code in my entire political career. I am ready to face any action if the EC feels that I have flouted any norms,” Reddy said.

The model code of conduct is in force in 10 districts, where by-elections to four Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies are scheduled to be held on May 29.
