The Election Commission’s drill for Lok Sabha elections has begun. On Friday, the EC will begin refresher courses for Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in preparation of the summary revision of electoral rolls for the general elections which will begin in December.Chief Election Commissioner J.M. Lyngdoh will chair a day-long meeting. Official sources said the meeting was called following controversies on the revision of electoral rolls in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.In both states, the EC has found CEOs and other officials indulging in irregularities while preparing rolls. In Madhya Pradesh, the Commission had punished seven officers, including district magistrates, and in Chhattisgarh, the CEO was posted out. The EC is worried about the ‘‘casual approach shown by some officials in dealing with the revision of rolls’’ and so has called the meeting, Commission sources said. The meeting will also issue fresh guidelines to CEOs on how to avoid controversies.
