The Election Commission rescheduled the dates for the election process as Maoists refused to submit the list of its candidates under the list system on the deadline set for the purpose.
The date for submitting the list has been fixed for October 5 and the date for filing the nomination has been fixed for October 10 instead of October 5. Chief Election Commissioner Bhojraj Pokharel made this announcement on Sunday following a request made by the Cabinet. The rescheduling has however made the elections on November 22 more uncertain, as Maoists have refused to consider the PM’s request to give up their demand for switching to the proportional representation system. “Their failure to give up the demand will mean no polls in November,” a minister toldThe Indian Express.
