
CHANDIGARH, March 25: The seminar on Structural Changes and Human Face organised by the Department of Evening Studies, Panjab University, addressed the need for introducing certain structural changes which should be introduced in Indian economy as globalisation would affect the common man.
I.B.S. Passi, Dean, University Instructions was the chief guest on the occasion. Romesh Pandey, chairman of the Department of Evening Studies said integrating Indian market to the global market has its own repercussions."Excess consumerism and evils of capitalism can lead to ethical degradation and crime," he added.
Marketisation caters to the select few and not to the common man of the country."
There is a need to empower the common people, create assets for them and then gradually move on to the process of marketisation, emphasised on the need to check out the socio-economic dimension of free market. Parminder Khanna criticised the liberalisation policy and stressed its inevitable negative impact on world economies. S.N. Joshi stressed on the urgency to work on alternatives to counter the free market ideology.
