More than 5.6 lakh to take IIT-JEE today

Over 5.6 lakh students will be appearing for the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Exam-2012,to be held on Sunday.

Over 5.6 lakh students will be appearing for the Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Exam (IITJEE)-2012,to be held on Sunday.

IIT-Delhi will be conducting the exam this year for admission to 15 IITs,Institute of Technology-Banaras Hindu University and Indian School of Mines,Dhanbad. The responsibility to conduct the examination is rotated among the IITs,and IIT-Delhi is conducting the examination for the fourth time.

Director of IIT-Delhi,Professor R K Shevgaonkar said,“All preparations are in place and we are ready to conduct the exam.”

Students from 210 cities will take the exam for approximately 9,600 seats in the IITs,1,000 in Institute of Technology-BHU and about 860 in ISM Dhanbad.Also,1.4 lakh girls have applied,and this year,they were all exempted from paying the application fee (Rs 1,800),irrespective of the category. “There were roughly 22 per cent girls who registered for JEE last year. This time,33 per cent of the applicants are girls,” said JEE chairman G B Reddy.

The exam will be conducted in two phases; The first paper will be held between 9 am and noon,and the second will be conducted between 2 pm and 5 pm.
