PUNE, June 29: Eight youths residing in Kothrud area were yesterday arrested on charges of murdering Shashikant Eknath Deokar, a 22-year-old painter from Jaybhavani Nagar slums.

Shashikant, who had left his residence to visit friends in the nearby Kishkandhanagar slums on June 25 night, was found lying dead in a stream behind his house on June 26 morning. His mother had lodged a complaint of murder with the Kothrud police in this connection. Police said the alleged killers stabbed Shashikant following a quarrel.
