PATIALA, Oct 1: October 1 has been declared the World Elders Day by the United Nations. The Modern Senior Secondary School, organised a Grandparents Meet yesterday in association with Helpage India, a voluntary body working nationwide for the welfare of the senior citizens. Grandparents of many students attended the function.

B. Sharma, the executive officer of Helpage India, highlighted the activities of the organisation. Ajit Singh (86) and Chitin Kaur (82) were chosen Grand Pa King’ and Grand Ma Queen’, respectively.

The school collected about Rs 1 lakh for Helpage India towards its project network for the welfare of the needy senior citizens.

Reena Sophat, the principal of the school, gave away the prizes to the students who had collected maximum amount.
