
Emaar MGF with a total land bank of over 13,000 acres and aims of being listed in February with its IPO scheduled to open on January 31, plans to build more than 30,000 hotel rooms , said sources. With Emaar MGF adding these rooms and with DLF joining in with around 25,000 rooms by 2010, the problem of hotel rooms’ availability seems to be getting addressed.
Emaar MGF has segmented its business into three categories. The first, is the high-end luxury hotels under which the company shall build 18 hotels with 4,960 rooms. Emaar MGF will build these within four years in tie-ups with Accor and JW Marriott.
The second category is the limited service hotel, for which Emaar has a JV with Premier Travel Inn. Under this, the company will build 80 hotels with each having room capacity between 100-125. At 100 rooms, the room capacity stands at 8,000. The rooms under the budget hotels will be priced between Rs 3,000 to 4,000. And the third category is the Formula 1 budget hotel that the company will build in joint venture with Accor. The JV will build 100 such hotels having a room capacity of 180-200 each. At 180 per hotel the capacity for Formula 1 hotel stands at 18,000. Rooms will be priced at around Rs 1,500.
Adding the three categories, the room capacity for the company stands at 31,000. The company is further exploring opportunities and will add more to its capacity with increasing opportunities evident in the Indian hotel industry, said sources.
