Uttar Pradesh CM Mayawati’s success in getting the Centre to beef up her security has set off a me-too race. The latest to join this round of competitive bidding for more security is BJP general secretary Vinay Katiyar, another UP politician. He pressed Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal for a review of his security status. And he apparently succeeded. While the security establishment considers how best to address the problems of those facing genuine threats, like L K Advani, Narendra Modi and Ghulam Nabi Azad, the biggest problem now is how to handle the competition that Mayawati seems to have initiated among UP politicians.
