A 20-year-old has been arrested for killing his mother because she often got drunk and beat him, police said here today. Pramod alias Raju Jadav, an industrial worker, killed Kavita Indrajeet Jadav (45) by hitting her in the head with a hammer at Pardikande village in Choryasi last night, police said.A drunk Kavita abused Pramod over a trivial matter and then started beating him last night, police said. It was then that Pramod picked up a hammer and hit Kavita thrice. His father, Indrajeet, a labourer, then took her to the New Civil Hospital here where the doctors declared her brought dead.After allegedly killing his mother, Pramod ran away, but the police caught him this morning. He told The Indian Express that his mother used to get drunk and beat him often. This had been going on for two years despite his father’s pleas, he said.‘‘I did not want to kill my mother. I was suffering, but I thought she would change one day. Last night, I just lost my patience and hit her. I feel very sorry,’’ Pramod said.Indrajeet said he had asked his wife to give up drinking many times but she never listened. Kavita used to ‘‘harass Pramod regularly and he was agitated’’, he added. But Indrajeet had never thought his son would kill Kavita. ‘‘He hit her on the head and she fell on the ground, her head bleeding. I immediately rushed her to the hospital with the help of neighbours but she was declared dead.’’Inspector V.J. Jadeja of Sachin Police said preliminary investigations seemed to corroborate Pramod’s story.
