The economists tell us that we are not in the information age anymore. The entertainment age is all pervasive. At school, teachers are now expected to engage the students’ attention by making learning “fun”.

The economists tell us that we are not in the information age anymore. The entertainment age is all pervasive. At school, teachers are now expected to engage the students’ attention by making learning “fun”. A mobile phone started off being a means of communication. Today it has become an instrument of entertainment. It permits you to listen to music, watch movies, send and receive e-mails, quick chat on sms. Every day some new feature is being added to the old cellphone, which can become obsolete within days of its purchase.

Shopping today is no more a drudgery. It is enjoyable.The attractive shopping malls offer a variety of things to do… First, you learn the existence of so many international brands. Their quality and diversity are so engaging. Then there is always variety of cuisine to select from.You can go into a gym, watch a movie or go bowling.

Airlines are redefining their businesses. They no longer seek merely to transport you from one place to another. The traveller now enjoys the flight. The entertainment on offer includes a variety of high quality of food and drink, elegant service provided by smart hostesses, movies and music of one’s choice.

Newspapers are not just a vehicle to impart information. They entertain you with human interest stories, gossip about actors and introduce you to society’s elite. TV channels are bending backwards to hold the viewers’ attention in order to stay in business. As for politics, it has become, arguably, the best entertainment on offer!

We certainly are living in the best of times.
