AHMEDABAD, May 26: Gujarat University will issue a show-cause notice to an external candidate Rambhai Jagmalbhai, who allowed a dummy candidate Mukesh Solanki to take his examination at the G B Shah Commerce college on Tuesday. Solanki claimed he was related to an MLA.
Both the dummy and original candidates have been arrested, the Vejalpur police said.
“The college principal Kaushik K Shah, two other examination supervisors Prof A I Patel, and Prof Pravin Shah and I were bitten and attacked by Mukesh Solanki when we tried to prevent him from running away,” Senior Supervisor (Examinations), Prof M C Shah told Express Newsline.
He said as soon the examination began, the Controller of Examination, Gujarat University, called up the principal to say an external dummy candidate with roll number 25598 was taking the examination. The authorities rushed to the examination hall to make inquiries, Shah said. But Mukesh refused to admit he was a dummy candidate. He was asked to show his university receipt with his photograph and roll number printed on it. The university authorities said the photograph had been attested by a forest officer in Gandhinagar.
Mukesh was then brought to the principal. As soon as the principal started questioning him, Mukesh immediately confessed he was a dummy candidate and that Rambhai Jagmalbhai was the original candidate.
Mukesh said he was from Gandhinagar and that Rambhai Jagmalbhai was a resident of Rahiz village in Mangrol Taluka of Jamnagar district. Mukesh told the principal that he was related to Malia Devanbhai Solanki, an MLA from Malia.
“While he was making these confessions, Mukesh suddenly ran away and when we tried to apprehend him, he attacked us and bit our hands,” Shah said. He said the college staff were able to apprehend Mukesh, who was later handed over to the police.
Shah said the manner in which the attested photo of Mukesh was pasted on his examination receipt, indicated that the move to plant him as a dummy candidate was pre-planned.
When contacted, Controller of Examinations Satish Bhatt said a show-cause notice would be issued to Rambhai Jagmalbhai within a month after completion of examination work.
“Rambhai Jagmalbhai will be called before the Examination Committee to explain his position and he could be debarred from appearing in examinations from one to five years,” Shah said.
Vice-Chancellor Professor S B Vora, however, said that since the dummy candidate was guilty of impersonation, action would also be taken against him by the police Officials at the Vejalpur police station said both Rambhai and Mukesh had been booked under sections 419, 323 and 114 of the Indian Penal Code and further investigation was on.
