Exports rise 22 pc in first half

NOV 1: Data released by the government showed that exports in September alone were $3.85 billion, 24.96 per cent higher than $3.08 billion in the same month a year earlier. Exports registered a growth of 30.04 per cent in April this year, 30.23 per cent in May, 27.55 per cent in June, 16.46 per cent in July and 17.46 per cent in August.

The first year of the Ninth Plan (1997-98) began with a measly 4.1 per cent growth. In the following year, a negative growth of 5.1 per cent was recorded. During the third year (1999-2000) however the exports notched up a 11.6 per cent growth, according to provisional data available with the Directorate-General of Commercial Intelligence & Statistics (DGCI & S).
