CHANDIGARH, March 28: In the world of dance, the Shakespearean line, Age cannot wither her..’ often turns out to be true. So was it this evening when Shobha Koser, a grandmother herself, danced the vibrant dance of kathak. She was not only swift and effervescent but also expressive and charming on stage.
The Sunday evening at the ongoing Bhaskar Rao Nritya and Sangeet Sammelan, organised by the Pracheen Kala Kendra, was reserved for vibrance. Shobha’s dance was followed by a fine ensemble of instruments led by Tej Prakash Tulsi on pakhawaj and Subhash Nirwan on tabla.
Shobha, the eminent danseuse trained by the stalwarts of Jaipur gharana like Kundan Lal Gangani and a lecturer at the Government College for Girls in Sector 11, doled out some of the specialities of the gharana like the intricate whirls and footwork.
Complemented by Jwala Prasad’s soul-stirring rendition of the verses, Shobha provided an evening that will be cherished by the appreciative audience, who received each movement with applause, for a long time.
