More than 10 days after his abduction in Afghanistan, the fate of Indian national Sarang Mohammad Naeem remains unknown even as the government maintains efforts are on to secure his release.Naeem, working for a Dubai-based company, was abducted by suspected Taliban militants in Adraskan in Herat province along with a fellow Nepali employee on April 21.The External Affairs Ministry officials today said the Afghan government authorities are making efforts to trace the hostage but no breakthrough has come yet.Indian Embassy in Kabul is in close touch with the Afghan Foreign and Interior Ministries to ensure that the kidnapped person is released safely at the earliest, officials said.Afghan police is conducting investigations but there is no news about the kidnapped person so far, the officials said.Naeem, who was kidnapped along with a Nepali national, was travelling without any security, ignoring the statutory advice to all Indians working in the trouble-torn country.Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma said India is “very pro-actively” pursuing the matter with Afghan government so as to ensure his safe release.The abduction came 10 days after suspected Taliban targeted Border Roads Organisation (BRO), killing two of its personnel in a suicide attack.
