Leg-spinner piyush chawla may not have any role to play in the Team India’s Twenty20 World Cup win in South Africa, but the 18-year-old is happy to be part of the winning squad.
Talking to The Indian Express from his home town Moradabad, the teenager said: “Though I could not play in the World Cup because of an injury in the left ankle, I am extremely happy that we won the coveted tournament in its very first edition. Team India winning the Cup is more important for me than anything else.”
The promising leggie confided that he did expect the kind of reception the team got on its arrival from Johannesburg on Wednesday. “The receipt that people of Mumbai gave was more than we had anticipated,” he said.
He also said that the win will be a big booster to the game in the the country. Asked to specify which match did he think was crucial, Chawla said: “All the matches were important, but the one against Australia was special. Winning against Australia was a great feeling.”
Admitting that Twenty20 game was enjoyable because of the format, he said, there was hardly a chance to come back after two or three bad overs. “It can change the whole scenario while in the longer (50-50) version there is always a possibility of a comeback.”
