Manchester United’s resilience and experience have taken them to the brink of their eighth Premier League title after their 2-0 win over a determined Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, say manager Alex Ferguson and captain Roy Keane. United are five points clear of second-placed Arsenal after goals from Paul Scholes and Ruud van Nistelrooy sank Spurs.
If they win their last two matches — at home to Charlton and away to Everton — the title will be heading back to Old Trafford. Ferguson told Sky Sports: ‘‘It’s a question of us winning our games. That’s exactly the way we’re looking at it. We’re not going to rest, you don’t get rest in this game. To win championships you need the resilience to go to the line the whole way.’’
Asked if the title was already won, skipper Keane said: ‘‘No chance. Arsenal are a top team and they deserve a lot of credit. We know there’s a long way to go yet. We have an important match next Saturday against Charlton at Old Trafford.
‘‘Obviously, we’re in a strong position but we’ve let things slip before so again that’s where the experience comes into it. We’ll just stay focused for next Saturday and hopefully we can get a win.’’ Ferguson was delighted with the effort put in by his players as they bounced back from their Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Real Madrid on Wednesday.
