FIEO seeks computerisation

MUMBAI: Alarmed over the negative growth of exports in the first-half of current fiscal, the Union government is toying with the idea to link all the departments dealing with exports, which includes manufacturing units, central and excise, customs, ports, sales tax, octroi, and exporters, through a local area network (LAN) system.“The idea is to reduce revenue leakage and, at the same time, cut down on corruption at each and every department,” says Ramu Deora president of FIEO.
