
GANDHINAGAR, February 10: A total of 1,125 candidates would vie for 182 seats in the tenth Assembly elections in Gujarat slated for February 28.According to the state election office here, of the 2,067 nominations filed, 469 nominations were rejected during scrutiny and 473 were withdrawn.
In the 1995 Assembly elections, a total of 4,946 nominations were filed, 197 of them rejected and 2,204 were withdrawn, leaving 2545 candidates in the poll arena. There would a triangular contest in most of the 182 Assembly seats as two major parties — Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress — are contesting 182 and 179 seats respectively for 182 seats in the state.
