Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have recorded net purchases of Rs 2,397.5 crore ($526.9 million) in equities and Rs 276 crore ($60.4 million) in debt for the month of February, lower than the previous month for both segments.

Mutual funds, however, acted in variance with FIIs to register net outflows in equities and debt at Rs 470.23 crore and Rs 465.31 crore respectively in the second month of 2004, according to the data available with Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) here.

In the month of January, FIIs were net buyers in equities at Rs 3,176.8 crore and Rs 692.6 crore in debt market.

MFs were also net buyers in equities and debt at Rs 824.97 crore and Rs 1,662.4 crore respectively in January.

FIIs, in February were net buyers in equities for 14 days and eight days on the debt front.

The foreign funds registered highest net purchases inequities on February 11 at Rs 578.4 crore followed by Rs 377 crore and Rs 367.7 crore on February 19 and 18 respectively.

In the debt market, FIIs did not transact for four trading days. The highest net purchases of the month stood at Rs 215.2 crore on February 10 and Rs 182.5 crore on the earlier day. Mfs were net sellers in equities and debt for 11 and 13trading days respectively, the sebi data said.

In the equities, mfs were net sellers at Rs. 158.76 crore,Rs. 150.2 crore and 90.04 crore on February 10, 17 and 18 respectively in the second month.

On the debt front, they registered their highest netoutflows of the month at Rs. 189.84 crore on February 25 followed by Rs. 122.95 and Rs. 100.28 crore on February 10 and 19 respectively.
