CHANDIGARH, Nov 13: The imbroglio over the quorum for the conduct of the business of the Finance and Contracts Committee got over with the Law Department stating that the meeting holds valid when only three of the eight members of the committee are present.
The legal opinion was sought by the Corporation after some members had earlier raised objections over the validity of some meetings of the F&C Committee when only two of the five elected councillors were present.
The UT Legal Remembrancer in his opinion on the issue has clarified that since the Mayor,
The Finance and Contracts Committee during such earlier meetings had taken certain important decisions, like privatisation of street lighting, on which certain councillors had raised objections and had stated in the House that the same were "invalid". However, with the LR opinion, all the earlier meetings of the F&C Committee have now been held valid.
