Mumbai, April 26: Veteran Simo Wamplnen of Finland, one of the original flying Finns and winner of several World Championship Rallies including 1000 lakes, RAC, Portugal during his time will be conducting an intensive course for car rally drivers and navigators from April 25-29, 2000, at Palldam near Coimbatore.

The MRF-sponsored course will include training in both theoretical and practical aspects for established rally drivers and navigators as well as in India. The first two days (April 25-26, 2000) is reserved for the Group A (modified cars) category competitors and the remaining three days for Groun N (unmodified cars) participants. Each person willbe trained for one day only. No registration or entry fee will be charged.

However, MAI (Motorsports Association of India), Mumbai which has organised this training programme, will select the participants who will be restricted to a maximum of 50 persons. Prospective candidates may fax their applications to the Secretary, MAI, Mumbai (Fax No 022-2014079/ 022-2004055).

In it’s effort to enrol new motorsports clubs, MAI has offered free return air tickets and free accommodation to a nominee from each of the first 10 motorsports clubs to enrol as club members of MAI.

This course has been sponsored by MRF Limited under the aegis of MAI (Motorsports Association of India), Mumbai, which received the Sporting Power from FIA (Federation Internatonale de I’Automobile), Paris, the governing body of motorsports world-wide on April 6, 2000. This is the first in a series of training programmes planned by MRF Limited to train India rally and race drivers, navigators and racing, motocross riders.
