Firoz Ali and Gurbaaz Mann shared the honours on the rain-marred first day of Global Green Bangalore Open golf. Rounds of three-under 69 saw the end the day as clubhouse leaders as play was suspended early on Thursday due to heavy rain.

Only 66 players had completed their first round, with 60 players still out hwen rains came.

A shot behind in third place are SSP Chowrasia and Delhi’s Himmat Singh Rai and Shamim Khan. Rahil Gangjee was among those at tied sixth with one-under. 2006-07 Order of Merit winner Ashok Kumar and and Mukesh Kumar shot identical scores of even par to grab a share of the 10th spot. Harmeet Kahlon finished Day 1 in tied 18th after a round of two-over 74.

Abhishek wins title

Kolkata: Bangalore lad Abhishek Jha won the strokeplay format of the LG Indian Amateur Golf Tour Goodricke Eastern India Open at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club here on Thursday. Abhishek brought in a card of 1-under 71 to finish with a two-day total of 1-over 145.

Rashid in lead

Mumbai: Rashid Khan inched closer to title with another sub-par round as he took a 13-shot lead at the end of the penultimate round of the Sunfeast Western India Junior/Sub-Junior golf championship at the Par-70 Bombay Presidency Golf Club here on Thursday.
