In the first instance of poll violence in the state, unidentified persons hurled a grenade on National Conference (NC) candidate Mubarak Gul in Srinagar on Wednesday. No one was injured in the attack. Police said the incident took place minutes after Gul went inside a party worker’s house in the Eidgah locality of the old city in the afternoon. Gul is the NC nominee from Eidgah constituency which will go to polls in the last phase.

“The grenade was tossed towards the house where Gul was staying, but it missed the target and exploded in a nearby compound,” a police spokesperson in

Srinagar said. “No one was injured in the blast but window panes of some houses nearby were damaged.”

SP (North) Abdul Waheed Shah said that the police has registered a case and investigations have begun. No arrests have been made yet.
