MUMBAI, July 2: As anxious students make a beeline to various college campuses to check out the first merit lists for FYJC admissions, the principals have cautioned that students should not feel dejected if they do not figure in the first list.
The Principal of Ramnarain Ruia College in Matunga, R T Sane, said: “The first lists are deceiving, since most of the students do not take admissions even though their names appear in the list.”
The cut-off percentage in the science stream at Ruia was 86 per cent while the arts cut-off was around 80 per cent. But since the same candidates have also applied in other colleges, the closing percentage will drop down steeply in the second list, informed Principal Sane. He added they had so far received 4,100 applications in science and 1800 in arts.
The highest cut-off percentage in science was 88 per cent at Matunga’s D G Ruparel College. A record 7,000 forms were accepted by the college in all the three streams, while the number of seats is limited to 600 in each of the streams.
The Bhavans College of Arts, Science & Commerce in Andheri had received 5,000 applications each in their science and commerce divisions. “While our science cut-off is 80 per cent, in commerce it is approximately 75 per cent. But only 35 per cent of the candidates will actually take admissions now,” said the Bhavans principal, D B Kadam.
The second and third merit lists are expected to be put up in all the colleges later this week.
