BANGALORE, SEPT 26: The first 220 mw unit of the Kaiga atomic power plant attained criticality today.

The reactor attained criticality at 1034 hrs and the entire process went on smoothly on anticipated lines, station director N Rajasabai told UNI over telephone. With this both the units of the atomic plant had attained criticality.

Rajasabai said as against the second unit which took nearly 70 days for synchronisation, the unit which went critical today would take only about 25 days. The criticality was scheduled to take place only next month, however scientists at the station compressed the work so that the major milestone could be advanced.
