PATNA, NOV 6: Mohammad Illiyas Hussain, who was dismissed as Bihar's road construction minister following his arrest yesterday in the Rs 400-crore bitumen scam, was remanded to CBI custody for five days.Special CBI judge S K Sharma sent the former minister to the CBI remand and fixed November 10 as the next date for his production.The CBI sleuths produced Hussain in the designated court today and prayed for seven-day CBI remand of the ex-minister, whose official residence was raided by the investigating agency.Shobha Sinha, an assistant in the State Road Construction Department, also produced in the court along with the former minister, was sent to CBI remand for five days.The CBI filed a petition and prayed the court for granting seven-day CBI remand to the accused. However, the judge allowed five-day CBI remand and directed that the accused should not be mentally or physically tortured and their counsel should be allowed to visit them twice a day .CBI counsel P Prasad informed the court thatthe investigating agency had not issued any summon before initiating the raid and interrogated the accused.He pleaded that the accused be sent to CBI custody. Both the accused were medically examined after they were taken to the CBI custody.Counsel for both the accused, Janardan Rai, who opposed the petition of the CBI, pleaded the court to allow medical check-up of his clients in CBI custody.
