The deaths of five persons over a week in Dadra & Nagar Haveli have led tribals here to fear an outbreak of a mysterious disease. However, District Collector Vijay Kumar has denied any pattern in the five deaths. He said,‘‘These are nothing but baseless rumours.’’

All five were treated at the government-run Vinobha Bhave hospital in Silvassa. They initially complained of high fever and throat pain. Within four to five days, they allegedly died due to severe fever, throat pain and other such symptoms. However, none of the hospital officials were ready to comment in the absence of the Medical Superintendent. The CMO, Dr J.S. Sandhu, too was unavailable.
