Flashback’s of a fool

Here is a project apparently hoping to ride on Craig’s Bond shoulders, not to mention the rest of his nicely-taut and nicely-on-exhibit body.

However, don’t be fooled. Just as you are getting used to the fact that he is a Hollywood star fast burning himself up on drugs and sex, and has a tormented past to boot, Craig disappears for almost the rest of the film.

It’s, after all, about the flashbacks of a fool. And in flashback, Craig is played as a 15-year-old by this short, skinny blonde guy (Eden) who could have been endearing in his nervous teens but is, at best, irritating. The film is about one hot summer where things came together and then fell apart for this teen, Joe.

As summer-coming-of-age films go, Flashbacks of a Fool has little new to offer in terms of story, mood or even the setting — three lonely cottages by a rocky seashore. What it does have is a surprising amount of nudity. But in a film playing so hard for effect, even that gets barely a raise.
