
TAUPO (NEW ZEALAND), JAN 4: New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming scored an unbeaten 59 as the Black Caps defeated the West Indies by seven wickets with six overs to spare at Taupo.
Chasing 193 to win the rain-shortened match in a maximum of 42 overs, New Zealand reached 194 for three in 35.4 overs to take a 2-0 lead in the five-game series.
Craig Spearman and Nathan Astle put on 54 for the first wicket before Astle was caught by Mervyn Dillon off the bowling of Jimmy Adams for 32.Spearman and Fleming took the score along to 98 before the opener was caught behind off Dillon’s bowling for 42.
Craig McMillan was the only other wicket to fall, caught behind for 13 off Franklin Rose’s bowling, before Fleming and Chris Cairns combined for a 57-run fourth wicket stand to guide the home team to a comfortable victory.
