Reacting to The Indian Express expose on the Bihar flood scam, political parties on Monday demanded a probe and said those behind ‘‘the most shameful of scams’’ to hit the state must be brought to book.

The Express reports also figured in the morning meeting of the NDA which now plans to rake it up in Parliament:

BJP’s Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi: This is the most shameful of scams to hit Bihar. Money meant for flood relief has been misused in a shocking manner. The Government, which institutes a CBI inquiry into every small issue, must surely probe something so shameful

SP’s Amar Singh: It’s disgusting and deserves contempt. We are perceived to be RJD rivals so we don’t want to make harsh statements. But the fact remains that the DM of Patna has to be the blue-eyed boy of the Bihar government. There should be an impartial inquiry and persons responsible, whoever they may be, should be brought to book

Cong’s Anand Sharma: If it’s true, it’s shocking that relief meant for the needy was misused. There is Governor’s rule in the state and the scam should be probed by the Governor and officials
