BAGALKOT, July 15: The incessant rains battering Karnataka for the last fortnight under the influence of the South-West monsoon, eased up on Monday, offering some respite to the flood-affected villages in Bijapur district. However, there is no change in the condition of the 30-odd marooned villages, and thousands of huts and houses are still under water. People in the flood-hit villages have been evacuated and officials are working round-the-clock to provide relief measures. Once the Koyna dam fills up, necessitating release of water into the Alamatti Dam, more villages are likely to come under the threat of floods, according to S M Jamdhar, Commissioner, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, Upper Krishna project.
