CHANDIGARH, Sept 27: One-sided matches were witnessed on the second day of the 28th All India Gurmit Memorial hockey tournament being played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.While, Chandigarh XI began their campaign with a thumping 4-1 victory over Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Jalandhar, Shivalik Club outplayed Ropar Haws by 4-2.Shivalik Club gave a spirited display. They scored two goals in each half and centre-forward Rajpal Singh contributed two goals. Dominating their rivals in all departments of the game, Shivalik Club started with a bang as their forward Rajpal Singh scored a field goal in the second minute.The young Shivalik boys, however, had to wait for their second goal. After wasting penalty corners in the sixth, 13th and 21st minutes, they doubled the margin in the 32nd minute through Sarabjeet Singh who converted a penalty corner with a sizzling shot.Ropar Hawks asserted themselves in the second half. The honour in this session was shared as both teams scored two goals each.Ropar Hawks reduced the margin in the 45th minute through their centre-forward Deepak. Shivalik hit back by scoring two goals within a span of four minutes. First Lakhwinder Singh banged a field goal in the 48th minute and four minutes later Rajpal Singh converted a penalty stroke to make it 4-1.Two minutes before the Ropar Hawks reduced the margin throuhg Jaswant Singh.Chandigarh XI proved too good for Electrical and Mechanical Engineers whom they outplayed by 4-1 after leading 4-0 at half time. Chandigarh scorers were: Vikram Saini (9th), Inderjit Singh (17th), Navdeep Singh (24th) and Jasmeet Singh (32nd). The lone goal for EME was scored by Appacho (60th).Chandigarh XI were awarded seven penalty corners and EME got five.
