NEW DELHI, July 24: After her heartening performance on the European circuit, middle-distance runner Rosa Kutty prepares for a showdown with Jyotirmoyee Sikdar when the two clash in the 400 and 800-metre events during the second AAFI Domestic Circuit meet at the Nehru Stadium here tomorrow.The meet will provide Rosa Kutty with the biggest opportunity for she is most likely to be the only female athlete to participate in the sixth World Championships, starting in Athens from August 1 to 10. The two other athletes could be thrower Shakti Singh and quarter-miler Paramjeet Singh.According to Lalit K. Bhanot, AAFI secretary, about 100 athletes will take part in the one-day meet. The Delhi meet, first in the AAFI calendar , gains importance as it would motivate athletes to perform well because of cash incentives and other awards. The originally scheduled first Domestic Meet at Bangalore in June was cancelled as it clashed with the National Games.The other women competing in the meet will be Neelam J Singh, Swaranjit Kaur and Sugan Yadav for the discus.As for the men's section, local lad Amit Khanna gets his chance to strike form, particularly after a bad showing on the European circuit. Khanna, who had become a rage during the National Games in Bangalore when he won the sprint event with a recordThe meet will also see Bahadur Prasad and Anil Mathew in the 1,000m, while a keen tussle is on cards among the throwers, Shakti Singh, Bahadur Singh, Anil Kumar and Ajit Bhaduria in discus and between Om Prakash and Jagdish in javelin.Apart from them, Paramjit Singh and Abdullah in 400m, Gulab Chand and Amrish Kumar in 10,000m will also be seen action.
