S.A.S NAGAR, March 26: The Punjab Cricket Assoscation (PCA) has made elaborate security arrangements for the forthcoming tri-series day-night one-day international cricket match between India and Pakistan to be played at the PCA Stadium here on April 1.

Keeping in view the perceived security threat, PCA has charted out a fool-proof plan along with the police and security agenicies, according to PCA secretary M. P. Pandove.

The stadium has been divided into six different sectors (zones) with each sector being self-sufficient, having its own parking zone, drinking water facility, telephone booths, toilet and catering facilites. Besides, a control room, headed by an Executive Magistrate and assisted by a G.O. of the rank of a DSP, will oversee each sector.

Each sector would also have tickets of a different colour code. The parking pass will also conform to the status of the ticket colour in order to avoid any confusion. Further, the PCA officials on duty will wear duty-passes of the same colour.

No inter-sector movement of spectators and officials, will be allowed. This will be made possible as grills inside the stadium have been welded. Grills have also be set up outside to keep gatecrashers away.

The spectators would be frisked at four points before entry. The first check would be at a distance of 1 km from the stadium and the second at the respective parking zone. After this, they will again be checked at the outer tiers of the entry points (stadium gates) and then for the last time at the inner tiers.

Whereas policemen will do the frisking outside the stadium, and PCA officials along with a security agency will do the frisking inside.

No spectator will be allowed to carry anything inside the stadium. “We don’t want to have a Calcutta like situation. By and large Chandigarh crowd has always been well-behaved and we hope it still stays,” M P Pandove said.

To further prevent any rubbish or bottles being thrown in, the organisers have built a PVC canopy above the players enclosure (Terrace Block). Chandigarh Police would be escorting the teams till the stadium.

Hoardings would be put at the differnt entry routes, displaying the route to be taken by the various ticket users. The road outside the stadium will be closed for the general traffic (except those entitled to VIP Parking Park passes). Those coming from Chandigarh will use two main entry routes — Sector 43-44 dividing road and Sector 45-46 dividing road.

“There is an independent 11 KV electricity line for the stadium and a special sub-station inside the stadium. This will be directly fed from the main feeder. Therefore, domestic supply will not be affected. We have a back up genrator system if there is a power faliure,”said Pandove.
