The Silver Jubilee alumni reunion of Carmel Convent ’83 batch, will see girls from all over the world get together for a walk down memory lane

”Is that me”? “My god, you look so different”, “those were my first pair of dungarees, and I sure look a sight,” “who is that”…one black and white photograph of a school function culled out from an album of the ’80s has the girls go back in time. Some things stay forever, deep in the heart and soul. Like old friends and school days. There’s a magic about those years that time doesn’t fade. Exactly why a group of Carmelites of the ’83 batch decided to connect, reconnect and relive the good ol’ days. It’s a Silver Jubilee alumni reunion and the two-day bash will see as many as 50 ladies from different parts of the globe get-together and party!

“It’s the first time in the history of Carmel that such a reunion has been planned and it’s a coincidence that it’s the school’s 50th anniversary too,” Nimrat Gujral from the batch and now director, administration, Inscol Hospital, settles down with a cup of coffee with her batch mates. Kavita Markanda, an arbitration lawyer shares how it’s such a special moment, with many of them having kept in touch here in Chandigarh and making a special effort to catch up for a coffee meet regularly. “Our husbands, children also share a bond and we’ve managed to get in touch with many batch mates abroad too and all over India and have many confirmations for the dinner at Zinc (December 22) and the lunch at CGA (December 23),” Kavita shares that their batch mate Rina Dhaka, one of the top designers in India and Meenakshi Wadhwa, Curator of Meteorites, Field Museum, and Chicago will be part of the reunion.

A lot has been planned for the event including a presentation of some defining moments and also photographs of functions at school. “Each one of us has done well for ourselves, it’s going to be quite a diverse group and there will be so much catching up to do when we scrape off the layers,” Dr Rainuka Dagar of IDC looks back fondly.

Simran Chadha of Iris can’t wait for the big event and is sure that it will set the precedent for many more bashes and girls’ days out. “I am designing crushed silk scarves in school colours for the girls as souvenirs and we will also have albums of the party for each one of us,” smiles Sohni, a fashion designer and part of the ’83 batch. Let the good times roll girls!
