ISLAMABAD, Aug 10: The Pakistani government has put four foreign missions here on “watch list” in view of the sudden spurt in sectarian killings.A leading newspaper quoting cabinet sources reported that these foreign missions have been put on “watch list” following reports that these missions are financing different sectarian groups.

The four foreign missions, however, have not been identified. “These diplomatic missions have been put under constant surveillance and their activities are being monitored by the concerned departments,” the daily quoted cabinet sources as saying.

However, a senior police officer of Punjab province, who ruled out possibility of involvement of any foreign elements in the sudden increase in the violence.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was himself monitoring the intelligence activities and two days ago chief of an intelligence agency called on the former to update him on the latest situation, the paper reported.

Pakistani President Farooq Ahmed Lehgari, Nawaz Sharif have been regularly hinting at the involvement of foreign agencies.
