VADODARA, Dec 6: About four lakh children from Vadodara city and district were given pulse polio drops in the first phase on Sunday. Children up to five years along with their parents were seen in long queues in the 620 booths set up in the 10 municipal wards. Though the immunisation programme began early morning it gathered momentum only later during the day.

In a bid to eradicate polio the organisers apart from holding it in various centres also went on a door-to-door survey to enquire whether there was a child and whether they had gone for immunisation.
Speaking about the programme, Pinakin Shah of Rotary international said the organisers had also seen to it that provisions were made to immunise those children at home who could not come to the immunisation centres.
The programme in the city was jointly organised by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the Rotary International, the collectorate. Vehicles of the corporation also moved around various parts of the city to monitor the success of the programme.
