The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has constituted a four-member disciplinary committee, headed by its vice-president Walter I Davaram, to consider the appeal filed by discus thrower Neelam Jaswant Singh following her positive dope test at the Helsinki world championships and the subsequent IAAF suspension.The other members of the panel are veteran athletes G.S. Randhawa and Adille J Sumariwala and Girish Tyagi, secretary of the Delhi Medical Association.The committee is empowered to rope in any pharmaceutical or legal expert to help the investigation, which has two months to complete the proceedings.Incidentally, till late yesterday — as reported in this paper — the AFI kept mum on any written communication from Neelam on her appeal. However, the AFI’s release today said that it received the appeal on August 29.
