Four Naxalites were killed in an encounter near Sundermardo village in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district on Saturday night. A female Naxalite was arrested from the spot and explosive and arms recovered.
Arjun Yadav, one of the Naxalites killed in the encounter, was the main accused in the CPI(ML) MLA Mahendra Singh murder case. The other three were identified as CPI(Maoist) sub- zonal commander Jodha Sao, Vijay and Rashmi.
Meanwhile, Kanti, a member of the Nari Mukti Manch, CPI(Maoist)’s women’s wing, has been giving the police a tough time.
Hazaribagh SP Praveen Singh said the slain Naxalites were either from Hazaribagh or Giridih. He said the police acted on a tip-off that an armed squad of Naxalites were going to hold a meeting in the Sundermando village.
As the security forces, led by Bhola Singh, approached the village, the Naxalites, perched on a vantage point, fired at them. The security forces retaliated and a two-hour gunbattle ensued.
