PUNE, DEC 6: Four members of a family were killed when a truck collided with a car near Yevat, around 90 kilometres from here on the Pune-Solapur highway, on Sunday morning.
According to the police, the car was reduced to a mangled heap and the bodies had to extricated with considerable effort. Dr Sudhir Vohra (45), his wife Dr Sarika Vohra (40), their son Sahil (20) and Dr Sudhir’s sister in law, Archana Vohra were on their way to Pune from Akluj in Solapur district when the mishap occurred.
A truck coming from the opposite direction collided with their vehicle killing Dr Vohra and his wife on the spot. His son Sahil and sister-in-law Archana succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital. Dr Vohra and his wife were practicing medicine in Akluj and running a nursing home there. They were on the way to Pune to see their son who had sustained an injury in an accident recently.
In another accident, a young woman was killed near Bhairobanala in Wanowrie on Sunday morning. According to police, Durga Kumar Pillay (21) was the pillion rider on the motorcycle being driven by her brother Sanjay when a truck rammed into them.
Durga died on the spot. Truck driver Babu Bapurao Kale has been arrested. The accident occurred in front of St Patrick’s Church on the Empress Garden Road. With these two incidents, the number of deaths on roads in the city and district in the last 14 days has gone up to 25.
