VADODARA, Nov 7: A fresh lease of life was provided to the Cambay Project of ONGC after oil was struck in Akholjuni-5 well recently. The well was drilled upto a depth of 2189 mts to explore the prospects of hydrocarbon in Oligo-Miocene, Eocene, Olpad and Trap Sections.

While the perforation in the interval of 1426.5-1428.5 mts. in Miocene Basal Sand produced hydrocarbon at the rate of 30.74 M3/day, the discovery of oil there has immensely enhanced the hydrocarbon prospects in the area. Another well Akholjuni-6 was therefore immediately dug on priority to assess the extent of the reservoir.

Immediately after the discovery of oil in Akholjuni-5, the officials started planning ways and means to initiate commercial production from the well at the earliest.

Storage tanks, separator, pipes and other related items were arranged from different installations of the project and transported to the well site. The engineers and technicians of mechanical and auto workshops — electrical, civil, transport, drilling and exploration groups — extended all support to Operation Business Group (OBG) in initiating the commercial production in the shortest possible time.

And with their efforts, the project was successful in starting the commercial production within six weeks of the discovery. Daljit Singh, GGM (E), Basin Manager, inaugurated the commercial production of crude from the well recently.

Implementation of new management model reviewed: B C Bora, CMD, and Jauhari Lal, Director (Personnel) reviewed the progress of implementation of asset-based management model in the Western Region on ONGC’s Operation at Vadodara. N Lal, Executive Director was entrusted the responsibility of the change programme in the region.

The new management model has been implemented in the region as a part of ambitious Organisation Transformation Project in order to chalk out a long-term growth strategy and enhancing the performance of the organisation to metamorphose the company into a world class E&P corporation.

As a part of this programme, the business processes have been re-engineered to align the various operating units to growth objectives.

Bora deliberated on the key issues related to implementation with the senior executives of the region who are responsible for the execution of change initiative. His emphasis was on the fine-tuning of structure and systems before they are rolled out to rest of the organisation.

He also stressed the need for change in view of fast evolving economic environment with the country and its integration with the world economy. He also said that the country had great expectations from ONGC being a major energy company and as an integral part of Indian economic community.
