Fresh lynching case in Bihar

Close on the heels of the lynching of ten persons in Vaishali district, a youth was beaten to death on Tuesday by angry villagers on the suspicion that he stole an idol from a temple in Sitamarhi district.

Suspecting that the victim Rakesh Kumar had allegedly stolen the idol, which went missing from a temple at Patahi village recently, a group of people collected at his house and started questioning him about it, Superintendent of Police M R Mayak said.

When he got irritated at the questioning, the crowd turned violent and started beating him with sticks and iron rods leading to his death.

An FIR was registered by Barginia police, the SP said adding the case was being investigated into and the guilty would be brought to justice.

Earlier on September 13, ten people, suspected to be thieves, were bludgeoned to death and another critically wounded by a mob in Vaishali district.

A mob had gouged out and pierced the eyes of three young men in Nawada district on September 11 for snatching a motorcycle.

Another youth, who had snatched a gold chain from a woman, was severely beaten up by a mob at Nathnagar in Bhagalpur on August 28. The local police had tied the man to a motorcycle and dragged him on the road.
