NEW DELHI, July 20: Indian Air Force (New Delhi), Frontier and Moonlight Club posted victories in group A and B respectively in the DSA-SAIL Senior Division Football League here today.
I.A.F prevailed over Simla Youngs whom they defeated 2-0, after leading 1-0 at the interval in group A at the Ambedkar Stadium.
Striker J. Das put his side ahead in the fourth minute. During the rest of the match both teams restricted themselves to midfield and no serious attempts were initiated by either side. On
I.A.F (New Delhi) have collected 19 points from nine matches while Simla Young have 15 from nine. Earlier, Frontier Club scored a 2-0 win over South India after lading by a goal at the interval. The first goal was scored by Sudhir who struck in the 19th minute. Sanjeev added another goal in the 49th minute.
Frontier have collected eight points from as many matches while South India have 13 points from 10 matches. Former league Champions Moonlight Club defeated strong favourites Indian Nationals 3-1, after leading 1-0 at the interval.
Nationals tasted their second successive defeat in the league, having earlier beaten by defending champions City Club.
Moonlight’s mid-fielder Mohd. Khalid scored first in the 17th minute. On changing ends, Moonlight’s Sumesh Meena struck the second goal in the 50th minute while Sanjay increased it 3-0 in the 52nd minute.
Nationals’ Mima reduced the margin in the 59th minute.
