CHANDIGARH, Feb 18: After vegetables, it’s the fruits that are likely to have the Chandigarh residents gnashing their teeth in frustration. For, the high prices of fruits such as mangoes and strawberries till date, have effectively kept them beyond the reach of common man.

This has been all the more distressing, as only a few days ago the electronic media had dispensed the heartening news of a bumper crop’ of mangoes and other fruits. While the mangoes this past week have cost anywhere between Rs 100 and Rs 150 per kilogram, the strawberries from a local farm have been fetching Rs 35 for 250 grams in the market.

Other fruits like oranges and grapes are also selling at Rs 30 and Rs 45, respectively, which too puts them out of the customer’s reach.
