CHANDIGARH, May 12: "The conceptual competencies in the nursing profession need to be strategically spelt out and practised," said Dr Y.N. Mehra, a trustee of TTV Chuttani Charitable Trust, at a function held to observe the International Nurses’ Week at the Chandigarh Medical Centre.

"Celebrating Nurses’ Past: Claiming the future" was dwelt upon at the function as C. Earnest, Chief Nursing Officer said, "The explosion of knowledge in medical and surgical related technology has not only created super specialities in curing diseases, but has also thrown up the challenge of specialised patient-care particularly

in paedriatics." Another function to commemorate the birth of Florence Nightingale was held at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. Various activities like declamation contest, on-the-spot poster-making competition and panel discussions are being organised by the Trained Nurses’ Association, Chandigarh Branch.

The chief guest on the occasion Dr B.K. Sharma, Director, PGI, said, "More and more nursing colleges should be opened for the nurses to obtain universty-level education in nursing, so as to keep abreast with advancements in medical sciences."

Govt Central Craft Institute to hold sale
Government Central Crafts Institute, Sector 11, will organise sale-cum-exhibiition of items made by the students of the institute. The decision has been taken to generate adequate funds for the institute.

Principal K. Ranga Rajyam said that earlier, only a few people used to buy garments prepared by the students, but now various garments like ladies suits, nighties, frocks, pillow covers, bed covers and aprons, would be put on sale and the prices would go up by 50 per cent.

"Earlier, we were charging only for the raw material. However, we have hiked the prices in view of the good quality products made by the students. Moreover, now we will be able to reach out to more people," said S.K. Aggarwal, Director, Technical Education, U.T. It will also make us aware of the market demand, he said.
