Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s visit to Kinnaur district on July 10 to inaugurate the 300-MW Baspa hydel power project has been cancelled. Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh said on Thursday that the inauguration would now take place later this year.The government move follows media reports on how Sonia was set to inaugurate a project her party had created a furore over. The party had made the signing of MoUs and power purchase agreements for various hydel projects, including the Baspa, by the then Dhumal government, the main poll plank in the recently held Assembly polls. Virbhadra blamed the cancellation of Sonia’s trip on inclement weather.
