Indian skipper Saurav Ganguly was unhappy over the performance of his spin bowlers after India surprisingly lost the first one-day international to West Indies but tempered his criticism by saying that “they can have bad days”.
Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were clobbered by the West Indian batsmen as the visitors snatched a thrilling four-wicket victory off the last ball of the innings after India had scored a challenging 283 for six. “The track supported spin bowling. But our spinners did not bowl well,” he said before defending them by saying “they can have bad days”.
A defiant Ganguly also said it would be unfair to expect India to win all their matches as even the best side in the world could falter at times. “We are not super-human. We have been performing well but we can also lose once in a while.”
Crowd trouble to be reported to ICC
Match-referee Mike Proctor today said the crowd trouble, that almost threatened abandonment of the first ODI would be reported to the International Cricket Council.
“I will certainly report the matter to ICC,” Proctor told reporters here after crowd trouble forced the match to be interrupted thrice.
The ugliest incident took place towrds the close with some spectators raining missiles on the ground when West Indies appeared to be cruising towards victory.
