CHENNAI, July 22: The Chennai Corporation has privatised the process of clearing of garbage from the 9 transfer stations to the two main dumping yards at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi at a cost of Rs 3 crore. As per the move, private contractors will have to use their manpower and vehicles to transfer garbage to the main dumping stations, which would save the Corporation a sum of Rs 3,45,80,000, which is 25% of its original expenditure. The Corporation has also initiated measures to introduce door-to-door collection of garbage where the residents will have to store the garbage at home in a plastic cover or bag, which will be collected by conservancy workers.
