Gastro claims 10 persons in Buldana district

BULDANA, JULY 27: The outbreak of gastro in this district has so far claimed 10 lives while 500 persons affected by the epidemic have been hospitalised.

According to a report, the cases of gastro were first noticed in Shegaon and Khamgaon tehsils. Even as the efforts were on to control the spread of the disease in these tehsils, the cases of gastro are being noticed in the Janefal, Sakharkherda and Amdapur region. Forty-five cases of gastro were reported from tiny Hiwra village alone near Janefal in Mehkar tehsil. It is gathared that a private water pipeline at the village developed fault and contaminated water found an inlet through the pipeline spreading the disease.Pushpa Shaligram Shinde, an anganwadi employee of Pardi village in the Janefal region, succumbed to the disease while Laxman Namdeo Sarode died at Uti village near Deulgaon Sakarsha. Seventy-one cases of gastro are reported from Deulgaon. The villagers alleged that the unhygienic conditions prevailing in the village resulted in the outbreak ofthe disease.

Twenty-three persons are affected by the disease at Sakharkherda which has a population of about 12,000.
